It is almost four in the morning of Holy Thursday. I sit here a work, the silence of the lobby enfolding me, and I find myself thinking back to earlier in the evening. Every Wednesday night I attend the St. Veronica Young Adult group meetings. It starts with adoration, then Mass, followed by a discussion on the book we are reading, then ended with dinner at IHOP. Yes, that blue and white International House of Pancakes:) Thank you Stephen for suggesting it several months ago!
Anyway, getting back to last night. Instead of the ususal discusion on the book we are reading, one of the group leaders gave a talk and some reflections on Suffering and Christ and the Eucharist. The presentation was ended with the Stations of the Cross video incorporating Mel Gibson's The Passion of Christ. I haven't seen this film since the first day it came out in theatre's. I found myself drawn into the stations in a way I haven't been in a long time. There were moments when I found myself jumping in fear for Jesus as He worked his way to Calvery. Several times I had to look away, I couldn't keep my eyes on his suffering and pain. This made me realize with a new clarity that this is in fact Holy Week!!
Now, while my internal clock is shot to pieces this week having switched from second shift to third shift ( and the delight of switching to first shift on the horizon), I wasn't so far gone that I didn't mentaly know what week it is. The days I am fuzzy on but the week I know! It made me realize that while I have had the gift of being a cradle Catholic, I also have the tendancy to take that for granted. To not really invest in the seasons the Church lays out for us to become closer to God.
As humans, we celebrate anniversaries of all kinds. Some are happy and some are sad. But we tend to forget that days like Holy Week are also anniversaries. Just as we celebrate the birthdays and marriages around us, we also need to remember those pivotal moments in time when God reaches down from Heaven and touches our lives. And this week we remember how He not only touched our lives, but gave us back eternal life. That with this great act of love, God brought us even closer to Him. He took all of our sins onto himself. He showed us what love really is. He is the truest friend we will ever have and we need to remember and share in His sufferings this Holy Week. Remind ourselves of the price He paid. Then rejoice at his resurrection.
After 15 years of trying to finish my undergrad, I spent the week before finals in and out of the ER. During finals I was diagnosed with Endometrial Cancer. I graduated Magna Cum Laude the next weekend from Western Michigan University. I am now blogging about my experiences of fighting cancer & living life after in hopes of being able to help others.

Posative stories but also thoughts that come my way.
While I know I started this blog for the purpose of sharing positive stories, I have been horribly remiss in keeping up with it. I am going to continue posting those positive stories as I find them, but I also am going to talk about life, my thoughts on different topics and add my own, simple voice to the blogging world.
